Soaking wet from a downpour
One day in my childhood I arrived home.
My brother asked: ‘Why didn’t you take an umbrella?’
My sister said: ‘Why you didn’t you wait until the rain had stopped?
My father added: ‘If you’ve caught a cold,
It’ll be your own fault.’
My mother however, while drying my hair,
Said: ‘Give thanks and praise, my child,
For having received a special gift from the Universe.
Every drop of rain and every snowflake
That falls from the Heavens
Blesses and heals the Earth.
And as there’s nothing finer than rainwater
For human complexions,
We’ll just let it dry on your face.’
