Longing

Rays Of Wisdom - Comfort For The Bereaved In Poetry And Prose - Longing

I never told you that I loved you.
I never told you that I cared.

I never thought how I loved you.
I never thought I cared.

I barely touched or held you.
I rarely talked to you at all.

I never knew the depth of longing
I would feel after you had gone.

I never knew I’d cry for you.
I never thought you would die.

I didn’t know how much I’d miss you,
For I barely knew you at all.
Please forgive me for not making
An effort to find out who and what
You really are.

O Great Father/Mother of all life,
Please forgive me
And help me to do better with those
Who are still with me,
Be grateful for their presence and
Daily show them how much they mean to me.
